I actually recommend parenting to the base and just rotating the base for turntables. It actually works easier than moving the camera, and the background stays still, which helps when calculating color changes between frames for the animated gif. (It gives you more colors in the GIF palette to allocate to the character, essentially.)
Doing it in Octane must be pretty rough... It turned out very cool, though!
